Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers there is not much there and has said although Ive been around Winnipeg, he is pretty excited to be playing with globally. Will Rodgers play this past week? That has not been decided as of this writing. He has not yet this preseason and there is hardly any reason to risk the former two-time NFL MVP.
He is learning another offense under head trainer Matt LaFleur so it may make sense to have Rodgers at least a series or two against a competition ahead of the normal season. We know not one of those starters that are Packers are going to play in Week 4 of the preseason. Rodgers has stated he would like to play with Thursday in case LaFleur allows him. I tend to think Rodgers gets exactly what he wants. Then again, Rodgers backlocked up to him a little a week — he was going to play against Baltimore before that happened — therefore LaFleur might sayhell no to playing.
I dont think its going to break or make us one way or another, LaFleur said Monday. Again, I have got a lot of confidence in himand I know our guys do as well, and weve gotten a great deal of good work, so Im not overly concerned either way, whether he plays or not.
The Packers won their preseason opener 28-26 at home Houston but lost a week to Baltimore 26-13 — once again, everyone loses to John Harbaughs Ravens from the preseason these days. DeShone Kizer, Tim Boyle, along with Manny Wilkins all struggled vs. Baltimore — Kizer is going to be the backup to Rodgers this season.
Oakland has been in the news preseason because of Antonio Browns silliness and of course because the Raiders are aroundHard Knocks so will have to observe some game footage from the Packers next week on HBO. I dont know about you, but I am 100 percent tired of Browns antics, however, the Raiders knew what they were getting when they traded for him. On Mondayhe registered yet another grievance against the NFL about his helmet that was favored. Since Brown has practiced because of his helmet and frost-bitten ft, cant imagine he performs here.
The Raiders beat the visiting Rams in Week 1, 14-13, and then won in Arizona last week, 33-26. Derek Carr played only a string versus the Cards and was 2-for-2 for 40 yards and a touchdown. Of interest is that the battle to become his copy involving Nate Peterman and Mike Glennon.
