Haas have confirmed that they are keeping both Kevin Magnussen and Romain Grosjean for F1 2020, ending speculation about their motorist line-up.
The conclusion, that Haas manager Guenther Steiner admits was made in the sake of“experience“ and“continuity“, means Magnussen and Grosjean will go into a fourth season as team-mates even though a troubled 2019 year old.
It also rules out a potential landing spot for many motorists, for example Nico Hulkenberg who was targeting the chair.
Can it be Lewis vs Max in Singapore?

„Experience, and also the need for it, has been one of the cornerstones of Haas F1 Team, also with Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen rushing for the group in 2020, we continue to have a driver lineup which offers us a solid platform to keep our growth,“ said Steiner.
„Their comprehension of how we work as a staff, and our understanding of what they can deliver behind the wheel, gives us a valued continuity and a solid base to keep developing our staff around.
„It has been a tough year for us 2019 using the change in performance of the VF-19, but our capacity to tap into our combined experiences will help us learn, enhance, and move forward as a device at 2020.“
Haas opt despite bad 2019 for continuity
Haas ended fifth in their F1 year but are just ninth in the Constructors‘ Championship in 2019. Their drivers, meanwhile, have clashed on-track.
But Grosjean, who joined Haas before their debut effort is thrilled to keep his place.
„I’ve always said that it was my desire to remain with Haas F1 Team and continue building on the group’s achievements,“ said the Frenchman.
„Having been here since the beginning and seen that the work equally Gene Haas and Guenther Steiner put into the team to ensure it is aggressive, I am naturally very pleased to become a part of the.
„We’ve had our struggles this season, but we’ll use both the experience of last year and this year to move forward into 2020. I’m excited about working with Kevin and the entire staff and continuing our journey together“
Magnussen included:“Nobody’s satisfied with how the 2019 season has performed, but the determination to turn things around is very much in evidence.
„I am thankful the team have consistently believed in me and what I can bring to the table. We share a frequent goal and collectively with Romain, I will be giving it my all on-track for the rest of the year and into 2020.“
What for Hulkenberg?
Haas‘ statement means there are just five seats one at Alfa Romeo: 1 in Red Bull next to Max Verstappen, remaining on the F1 2020 grid, one in Williams, along with 2 in Toro Rosso.
The options are therefore restricted for Hulkenberg, especially as Antonio Giovinazzi is place to keep his place at Alfa Romeo as well as drivers will almost surely fill the Toro Rosso spots.
Providing he needs a chair for 2020 will certainly therefore be targeting the Red Bull push – although the group prefer to promote from within.
Alex Albon is now the team-mate after stepping in for the Pierre Gasly mid-season of Verstappen.
